How it began...
Let me tell you, being a waiter ain't no walk in the park. Especially when you're working with family, like I did when my parents bought a restaurant when I was just a wee kid. As I got older, I started helping out during summer holidays, either at the takeaway shop or the restaurant. But let me tell you, working with your parents can be a total pain in the ass. They were always telling me, "This isn't how you do it!" or "Who taught you that?" Uh, hello, you did!?
But once I got the hang of things, and started focusing on the customers, things started looking up. Seeing the smiles on their faces, their eagerness to come back, and the tips they left me, made the job worthwhile. I even started learning their names and having a chat with them, which made the job even more fun.
And let's not forget the other perks of the job. The ladies who made the shift more enjoyable, and the bachelorette parties that would come in and make the restaurant go wild. Those were the moments that made the job truly unforgettable.
Now, even though I've moved on from my family's restaurant, I'm still a waiter. I'm not sure if it's fate or just plain laziness that's kept me in this line of work, but one thing's for sure: I'm damn good at it.
Being a waiter is not always easy, and there are definitely some struggles that come with the job. But for those who are willing to work hard and learn the ropes, it can be a truly rewarding career. So the next time you're out at a restaurant, be sure to show some appreciation for the hard work that goes into making your dining experience a memorable one.
